Photoshoot at Pink Salt Lagoon

This is the pink lagoon of Torrevieja, it is a unique natural phenomenon in Spain!

Pink Salt Lagoon

This special place is located in Torrevieja in Alicante province in Spain. Special bacteria which lives in this very salty lagoon producing pink pigmentation. In this pink lagoon is 350 grams of salt per liter of water which makes it very close (by numbers) to the dead sea.

Pink lagoon is producing 800,000 tons of salt annually and then gets exported to northern Europe and the United States for industrial purposes. For example de-icing salt to roads, use in dishwashers, also used in some food industries for example for salted fish.

BTW It is forbidden to bathe in a pink lagoon even if we see on instagram the opposite picture, but it is still worth a trip to Costa Blanca just to see and make pictures.

When we were shooting photos there we saw a lady bathing there and she was local. People do not seem to care about this and are coming to take a batch here anyways.

Why is it not allowed to swim there ?

Because it is an industrial area and salt gets carried out with submerged agricultural machines - “volvedoras” and because of it this is even dangerous to do.

But also For environmental reasons, to guarantee the quality of the lagoon ecosystems.
