Independence Square, Minsk

You probably know that in august 2018 I was traveling to Belarus, Minsk. It was such a beautiful summer everywhere in Europe so I had to use it for good.

About Minsk city itself I will tell you later but now want to share my Photoshoot from Minsk at Independence Square. For this photoshoot I got up very early to make photos with a sunrise, light is so much better at that time of the day.

Don’t worry I definitely will share more photos about my trip from Minsk later, I have so many pictures and Information to share! Minks is one huge city with a quite crazy history.

A little bit about Minsk Independence Square

The pedestrianised square looks enormous and it must be one of the biggest in Europe. Around it are some interesting buildings of different periods and of different character. In the middle of the square are several glass cupolas for the modern and quite luxurious looking underground shopping center Stalitsa on three floors.

At the northern end, on both sides of Nezalezhnosti (Independence) Street leading out of the square are the quite attractive neoclassic Post Office and the hotel Minsk. A landmark here is naturally the Roman catholic Church of Saints Simon and Helen, built with red brick a bit more than hundred years ago.

Next comes the very large Government House, built in a functionalist style in the 1930s and which has survived the destructions of WWII. Today it houses the Belarus parliament. In front of it stands a statue of Lenin on a pedestal. With 14 storeys the highest building around the square is the Pedagogical University (which you can see on my photos quite a lot) at its southern end.

The closest metro station here is 'Ploshchad Lenina', which also serves the not too far away Railways Station.
