05.02.2019The Cross overlooking Benidorm
Benidorm has to be from the top of the Sierra Helada (meaning Ice Mountain) - often referred to as "The Hill" at the Rincon de Loix. Many city visitors hike up to the top, but got to realize that it is probably 45 minute walk each way (obviously depending on how fit you are). There's no coffee shop at the top, somake sure to take a bottle of water with you. But best to take a car and drive up especially if it is hot time of the year, way faster and easier. Some people taking taxi up and walking back by feet.
Benidorm landmark - The Cross which can be seen from far away.
The cross was built during the 1950's by the local residents to bring luck and protection to the town. First I drove up the hill, but the last 100 metres up to The Cross has to be done by foot.
The Cross itself is very big - about 8-9 meters high and made of metal. Over the last few years it has become the focal point as a shrine for lost loved ones, with plaques and mementos covering the lower portion of this cross. with plaques and mementos covering the lower portion of the structure.
It is actually illegal to place plaques up but people doing this anyway. Also graffiti disaster at the bottom of the cross is looking quite not cool. Anyway panoramic view is worth a visit for sure!
