First of all Jelgava is student city and I can partly call this place my home, as I did spend here a lot of time while I was a student.
Why it is a student city? Because here you will find most schools and Universities, this is where all students end up when they ready for extra education.
Jelgava city is very green place, many beautiful parks, quite wide Lielupe-river goes thru it. On an island between the Driksa and Lielupe rivers you will also find Jelgava Palace, now it is home to the Latvian University of Agriculture.
Yesterday I went to Jelgava because wanted to check a new park near the river, it is very beautiful with a new bridge and restaurants near the river in marina style. Jelgava is ready to celebrate 100 year of independence of Latvia and in 5 years a lot of things are different in this city. This is is my favorite city in Latvia!
