Happy Halloween!

So trick or threat ?

Here typical me (little devil) BTW in my new kitchen (but pictures from kitchen “before & after” I'll show you in other gallery.

But now I want to wish you a Happy Halloween! Also want to tell you a little bit about it, because lately Halloween became one of the most celebrated events on our planet and It is very interesting where this celebration come from.

A little bit of history

It is october 31st so it means today people celebrating all Saints Eve! It is celebrated in several countries these days.

Originally, it comes from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, (they lived 2000 years ago) at that time people would light up bonfires and dress up like ghosts. This was mainly happening in United Kingdom, Ireland and northern France. It used to be known as All Hallows Eve but today we are calling it Halloween. 31 october also meant the end of the summer and the beginning of the cold winter or beginning of the dark, back then it was associated with a human death.

Halloween in Spain

In Spain Halloween known as El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead ), Halloween in Spain is celebrated for 3 days! It starts on October 31st with Dia de las Brujas (Day of the Witches), continues with Dia de Todos los Santos (All Saints Day) on November 1st, and finishes on Dia de los Muertos on November 2nd.

Today people in Spain celebrate it differently - some visit graveyard(remembering they relatives and friends), some celebrate at home with family, others go out and dress up, people also making big events outside or at the nightclubs but pretty much all coutry is celebrating this day.

Halloween in Latvia and Russia

This is not something that people are used to in these countries. Not celebrating officially and actually Halloween is not even accepted by many people in general.

But you will meet young people celebrating it, dressing up and going out, even making carnival procession at the evening of 31okt (one year I also went to such carnival procession in Latvia) but then church people are very much against it and tried to stop people on the street (I was one of then dressed up like a devil) and tell them to go to church. I don't think that anybody cares and every year this celebration is becoming more and more popular.

What about your country ? How people celebrate it and for how long?
