Guadalest Castle!

Yes, I am back to Guadalest castle again! I visited this place 4 times and still love it.

Guadalest village is about 25 - 30 min drive from quite popular beach city Benidorm. Guadalest is also one of most visited tourist attractions on the Costa Blanca, so I could not make a video about this place, video be soon on my YouTube channel.

Guadalest itself is a village sitting on top of a mountain. Views from this castle are amazing as it is surrounded by mountains with green valleys and sky clouds around this place looks amazing even in rainy day.

In village of Guadalest lives only about 200-250 people and this people mostly work with tourists related jobs.

El Castell de Guadalest was built during the Moors occupation of Spain in the 12th century.

But the “Grand House” of El Castell de Guadalest or “Castle Orduna” was built after the great earthquake of 1644, which devastated the region and demolished the buttress of the castle.

Also of note was in 1848 when powder kegs blew up (the reason is not known) the castle was abandoned.

Guadalest is famous for two buildings

First is Portal de San Jose - 15 foot long tunnel carved out of the rock. It is only way to access Guadalest Castle. When you get on the other side of tunnel you see the old village houses and it feels like you have entered an ancient time.

Second is The famous building that you will often see photographed or on postcards is the white bell tower of Penon de la Alcala.

Museums in Guadalest Village and around it check here.
